The speed at which information spreads online, particularly on social media, is an advantage, but people's negative comments and reactions to an article pouring in at high speed can also have an impact on journalists' work and morale.

Reporting on sensitive or slightly controversial topics is challenging for every journalist, but women and reporters of colour tend to bear the brunt of online abuse once their stories have been published.

In this post on Poynter, Elite Truong, product manager at Vox Media, recommends ways to cope if you find yourself the target of such abuse.

Her advice includes finding or creating a community for support, and setting clear boundaries for the amount and the type of work you are able to take on at any one time.
