Constantly coming up with original story ideas can be challenging, but there are certain systems and networks journalists can use to ensure they are never out of stories.

Steve Buttry, director of student media at the Manship School of Mass Communication at Louisiana State University, and veteran journalist, recently held a series of workshops on story sourcing and interviewing, and published his slides on his blog, together with additional links.

He emphasised crowdsourcing as a helpful newsgathering method, and offers insights into interviewing techniques and ways to build a rapport with your sources.
