The Guardian today launched its Student Media Awards, recognising emerging talent among student journalists, editors, photographers and bloggers in the UK.

The awards, now in their 33rd year, offer work experience prizes across nine categories, including publication of the year, website of the year and reporter of the year.

This year's judging panel includes Alan Rusbridger, editor-in-chief of Guardian News & Media; Sarfraz Manzoor, author, journalist and broadcaster; Jon Snow, presenter of Channel 4 News and journalist and campaigner Heather Brooke.

Last year's first prize for publication of the year went to Kingston University's student newspaper The River. The university was one of six whose students were recognised for their work in journalism across print and digital media platforms at the awards.
