The Hampshire Chronicle made e-history this month as the first British newspaper published in e-book format suitable for reading on the Rocket e-book.

Coinciding with the Chronicle's 228th birthday, the move means readers will be able to download content from the internet to have in a portable electronic format.

Launched on a experimental basis free of charge, readers can load it to the Rocket e-book directly. Alternatively readers can see what the e-paper looks like using software that impersonates the e-book and view the paper online.

The Chronicle website lists sites where the Rocket e-book is available and states that it hopes to adapt the service to the Microsoft reader software soon.
