Live blogs for major events are enjoyed by both audiences away from the action and those watching it on TV, and are subsequently becoming a staple for many publishers looking to inform and entertain readers.

This MediaShift article from Aileen Gallagher, associate professor of magazine journalism at Syracuse University's Newhouse School, details the experience her class had when they liveblogged the recent Oscars ceremony.

Gallagher, who explains big nights such as that one were "memorable, exhilarating and more than a little exhausting" when she was working in the industry, notes the importance of creating a simple plan before the event, ensuring you're 100 per cent familiar with the CMS you're using to publish, and working as a team to add context to the event through interesting material that will engage audiences.
