Alves will now be responsible for organising the Style Notes section and the watches and fine jewellery stories, according to the publisher.
She leaves her former role as press manager at Chanel, taking up her new role with immediate effect.
"After seven years working in the press office at Chanel, I was delighted to be appointed to this position at InStyle," said Alves in a release.
"It is such a wonderful opportunity for me to work on 'the other side' and experience life as a journalist. I am very much looking forward to the approaching shows and getting to know everyone involved."
