Clare Johnston has been appointed editorial director for the Press Association (PA) in Scotland and Ireland.

Ms Johnston will be responsible for developing new business across traditional and new media platforms including digital services and contract publishing. She will also represent PA to its wire customers in Scotland and Ireland.

After completing a postgraduate diploma in journalism studies at Cardiff University , Ms Johnston joined PA as a Teletext writer. She worked as production editor, Scottish editor and Teletext assistant editor before moving to more commercial roles, helping to launch the company's contract publishing department and overseeing business development.
