The tech publisher recently announced a wave of new appointments designed to help its print and online publishing business work more closely. In his new role Mr Jones will be responsible for developing the PCW, Computer Active and Active Home websites, newsletters and blogs in a sector that VNU sees a vital to to its future.
"We want to push far harder online and see our audience get much bigger," Mr Jones told journalism.co.uk.
"We feel that by concentrating our efforts online, we'll see a big leap in the number of people visiting our sites and the pages that they read.
"We'll be a daily organisation, so every day there will be new reviews and news online and I'll also be working on new launches to expand our coverage into related areas."
Mr Jones joined VNU in 2000 and has worked as editor of the VNU News Centre, Network News and PCW.
He advises new journalists to be persistent and listen to advice from experienced colleagues, as well as enjoying the job.
"It can be hard to break in, but people with a good attitude and the right aptitude shine pretty quickly."
