Times Online has overtaken Guardian Unlimited and FT.com as the site with the highest business readership, according to the latest British Business Survey (BBS).

Since the last survey in 1993, Times Online's share of business readership rose from 23 per cent to 25 per cent - an audience of around 167,000.

The biennnial survey compiles readership data from 65 news and business titles. Business readers are identified as a lucrative market that is valuable to advertisers because they are typically affluent, educated and are in senior jobs.

"We have invested significantly in our business coverage over the past two years," said Peter Bale, editorial director of Times Online.

"We are really serious about business coverage and we're delighted the business community is finding the site increasingly valuable."
