The post is funded by Johnston Press, the regional newspaper publisher, and involves working closely with the company to identify new formats for publishing, syndicating and distributing content.
"Johnston Press is funding the position - the first of its kind in the UK: a great example of a traditional media player thinking outside the box," said Mike Ward, head of the department of journalism at UCLAN.
"The post would suit either a practitioner with a track record of published analysis or an academic seeking applied research in this area."
The closing date for applications is 6 January.
