Technorati praised at interactive awardsBlog search engine Technorati has scooped two awards at the annual SXSW Interactive festival in Texas.

The site won the award for technical achievement, but also beat nearly 80 highly-acclaimed finalists to be awarded best of show.

Technorati allows users to search content on 30.5 million blogs and ranks popular topics by measuring links and monitoring keywords, or tags.

It shows which bloggers are attracting the most traffic, which blog entries have stimulated the most discussion and tracks how individuals or businesses are being discussed online.

The SXSW, or South by South West, festival is held every year in Austin, Texas. The four-day event focuses on new innovations in music, interactive digital media and film; this year's interactive conference focused on digital convergence in technology.

• Traditional media has increasingly incorporated blogging tools as it attempts to attract a new, younger audience.

WashingtonPost.com introduced Del.icio.us tags last month, helping users to find and link to its news stories, and already features Technorati links to show how bloggers are referring to each article.

The newspaper this week announced 80 job cuts as a result of declining circulation and sluggish advertising, but also said that it plans to distribute content across more platforms including its website, blogs and web chats.
