Nominees announced for Bobs blog awards

Nominees have been announced for the BOBs, Deutsche Welle's Best of the Blogs 2005 contest that rewards blogs promoting quality journalism around the world.

Eight candidates were selected in 13 categories, with Reporters Sans Frontières (RSF) teaming up with the German radio network to present a special "freedom of expression" award.

"All of these eight blogs carry news and information not found in the traditional media," RSF said.

Nominees include the China Digital Times, imprisoned Iranian journalist Hanif Mazrooie, a blog about violence in Colombia and dissident Tunisian hunger striker Yahyaoui.

One of dozens of blogs censored in Tunisia, Yahyaoui's site, which protests against limits to citizens' freedom, is unavailable as it has been the victim of some kind of attack, RSF said. The site is still available in Google's cache, however.
